Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how people communicate, interact with others, process information, and experience the world around them. Because autism exists on a spectrum, every individual has a unique combination of strengths, challenges, interests, and support needs.
At Adelpha Psychiatric Group, we provide psychiatric care for children, adolescents, and adults living with autism spectrum disorder. Our physicians
work closely with patients and families to understand the full picture, including emotional well-being, daily functioning, relationships, school or work challenges, and co-occurring mental health concerns.
Treatment focuses on supporting overall well-being and addressing psychiatric symptoms when they occur alongside autism.

Autism Spectrum Disorder
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects communication, social interaction, behavior, sensory experiences, and patterns of interest.
Because autism is a spectrum, no two individuals experience it in exactly the same way.
Some people may require significant support in daily life, while others live independently and seek help for specific challenges related to relationships, work, school, emotional health, or co-occurring psychiatric conditions.
Autism is often identified during childhood, but some individuals are not recognized until adolescence or adulthood.
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Autism can present differently from person to person, but common characteristics may include:
Some individuals experience only a few of these characteristics, while others experience many.
Because autism presents differently across individuals, a thorough evaluation is often necessary to understand each person’s strengths, challenges, and support needs.

Autism Spectrum Disorder
Yes.
Many individuals with autism also experience other psychiatric concerns that may affect emotional well-being, relationships, school performance, work functioning, or quality of life.
Common co-occurring conditions include:
In some cases, symptoms from different conditions can overlap. A comprehensive psychiatric evaluation helps identify what may be contributing to a person’s difficulties and guide treatment recommendations.
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Autism itself is not treated as a disease to be cured. Instead, support focuses on helping individuals thrive, improve functioning, and address challenges that may interfere with daily life.
Depending on the individual’s needs, recommendations may include:
Treatment recommendations are individualized and based on each person’s goals, strengths, and circumstances.

Some adults pursue care after receiving a recent autism diagnosis, while others seek support for concerns they have managed for many years.

Many patients come to Adelpha without knowing exactly what condition they may be experiencing.
Symptoms often overlap. Anxiety can look like ADHD. Depression can occur alongside trauma. Mood changes may have many possible causes.
The purpose of the consultation process is not simply to assign a label. It is to understand the full picture and help determine what type of support may be most appropriate.
Whether you have an existing diagnosis, are seeking a second opinion, or are simply looking for answers, our team can help guide the next step.
Insurance support is part of making care accessible
The first step is a consultation process.
Thoughtful care starts with a thorough evaluation.
At Adelpha, getting started does not mean rushing into treatment without context. The first few visits start with an initial consultation period. This process includes at least two visits for adults and three visits for children and adolescents within the first month. This gives your physician or marriage and family therapist time to understand your history, current concerns, goals, previous treatment, and what kind of care may be helpful.
When appropriate, your physician or marriage and family therapist may ask to coordinate with your prior or current mental health providers, your primary care physician, or family members involved in your care. At the end of the consultation phase, we will share our impressions and recommendations. We will work with you to determine whether ongoing care with Adelpha is clinically appropriate and develop a comprehensive treatment plan.
