Schizophrenia is a complex mental health condition that can affect thinking, perception, emotions, behavior, and daily functioning. Symptoms can vary significantly from person to person and may affect relationships, work, school, and overall quality of life.
At Adelpha Psychiatric Group, our physicians provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment for adolescents and adults experiencing symptoms of schizophrenia. We take time to understand each person’s experiences, treatment history, support system, and goals before making recommendations.
Treatment may include medication management, psychotherapy, family involvement, and ongoing psychiatric care designed to support long-term stability and well-being.

Schizophrenia is a chronic mental health condition that affects how a person interprets and responds to the world around them.
The condition can influence thinking, perception, emotions, communication, and behavior. While schizophrenia is a serious illness, many individuals experience meaningful improvement with appropriate treatment and support.
Because symptoms can overlap with other psychiatric and medical conditions, a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation is an important first step.
Hallucinations may involve hearing voices or experiencing other sensory perceptions that are not present to others.
Delusions are strongly held beliefs that persist despite evidence to the contrary.
Changes in Thinking and Communication
Not everyone experiences the same symptoms, and symptom severity may change over time.

In many cases, family members notice symptoms before the individual recognizes them. Early evaluation and treatment can often help improve outcomes and support long-term stability.
Diagnosis begins with a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation.
Your physician will review symptoms, medical history, psychiatric history, medications, family history, and other factors that may be contributing to symptoms.
Because psychotic symptoms can occur in several different conditions, careful evaluation is essential before developing a treatment plan.

Yes.
Many individuals with schizophrenia are able to build meaningful relationships, pursue education or careers, participate in their communities, and achieve personal goals with appropriate treatment and support.
While schizophrenia often requires ongoing care, treatment can help reduce symptoms, improve functioning, and support a higher quality of life.
The goal is not simply symptom reduction. The goal is helping individuals achieve greater stability, independence, and overall well-being.
treatments
Treatment is individualized and depends on symptom severity, treatment history, and personal goals.
Treatment recommendations may include:
Medication is often an important part of treatment and may help reduce psychotic symptoms, improve stability, and support daily functioning. Ongoing medication management allows treatment to be adjusted as needs change over time.
Adelpha physicians have experience managing complex psychiatric medications, including treatment approaches used for more challenging or treatment-resistant presentations when clinically appropriate.

Many patients come to Adelpha without knowing exactly what condition they may be experiencing.
Symptoms often overlap. Anxiety can look like ADHD. Depression can occur alongside trauma. Mood changes may have many possible causes.
The purpose of the consultation process is not simply to assign a label. It is to understand the full picture and help determine what type of support may be most appropriate.
Whether you have an existing diagnosis, are seeking a second opinion, or are simply looking for answers, our team can help guide the next step.
Insurance support is part of making care accessible
The first step is a consultation process.
Thoughtful care starts with a thorough evaluation.
At Adelpha, getting started does not mean rushing into treatment without context. The first few visits start with an initial consultation period. This process includes at least two visits for adults and three visits for children and adolescents within the first month. This gives your physician or marriage and family therapist time to understand your history, current concerns, goals, previous treatment, and what kind of care may be helpful.
When appropriate, your physician or marriage and family therapist may ask to coordinate with your prior or current mental health providers, your primary care physician, or family members involved in your care. At the end of the consultation phase, we will share our impressions and recommendations. We will work with you to determine whether ongoing care with Adelpha is clinically appropriate and develop a comprehensive treatment plan.
