Medication Management services offered in Encino, Pasadena and Oakland, CA

Medication Management (MM)

Medication can be an important part of treatment for many mental health conditions. At Adelpha Psychiatric Group, medication recommendations are made thoughtfully and only when clinically appropriate, with attention to the whole person rather than symptoms alone.

Our physicians take time to understand your history, current concerns, treatment goals, medical conditions, and previous experiences with medication before making recommendations. For some patients, medication may be one part of treatment alongside psychotherapy, TMS, lifestyle changes, or other supportive services.

Adelpha provides medication management for children, adolescents, and adults both in person and through telehealth when clinically appropriate. Our physicians also have experience with specialized areas of psychiatric medication management, including outpatient Suboxone treatment, clozapine management, treatment with MAOI’s, and medication considerations during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

If you would like to learn whether medication may be appropriate for your situation, contact our team to discuss the next step.

Medication Management

What is medication management (MM)?

Medication management is an ongoing process that helps ensure psychiatric medications are being used safely, effectively, and appropriately as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

Treatment involves more than simply prescribing medication. Your physician will evaluate your symptoms, monitor progress, review side effects, assess potential medication interactions, and make adjustments when needed.

At Adelpha, medication management is approached as one tool within a broader psychiatric care model that considers your goals, relationships, medical history, and overall well-being.

Why would I need medication management?

Medication may be helpful for a variety of mental health conditions, including:

  • Depression
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Panic disorder
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • ADHD
  • Eating disorders
  • Schizophrenia and psychotic disorders
  • Substance use disorders

Medication management can also be particularly important for patients who take multiple medications, have complex
medical conditions, or need specialized psychiatric treatment.

Our physicians also provide guidance for patients who require psychiatric medications during pregnancy or while
breastfeeding, helping patients make informed decisions based on their individual circumstances.

What happens during my initial medication management appointment?

The first step is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation.

Your physician will review your medical and psychiatric history, discuss your current symptoms and concerns, explore previous treatment experiences, and learn about your goals for care.

Please bring information about all medications you currently take, including prescription medications, over-the-counter products, vitamins, and supplements. This helps your physician identify potential interactions and make informed treatment recommendations.

Medication recommendations, when appropriate, are developed collaboratively and tailored to your individual needs.

What happens after treatment begins?

Medication management is an ongoing process. Follow-up visits allow your physician to monitor your progress, evaluate benefits and side effects, and make adjustments when necessary.

Some patients remain on the same medication plan for extended periods, while others may need modifications as symptoms, life circumstances, or treatment goals change.

When clinically appropriate, medication management may be coordinated with psychotherapy, TMS, primary care physicians, therapists, and other members of your treatment team to support more comprehensive care.

Do you offer specialized medication management services?

Yes.

including:

  • Clozapine management

MAO inhibitors

Insurance support is part of making care accessible

Insurance and Courtesy Billing

We know cost and insurance questions can be stressful. Our team will help make the financial side of care as clear as possible and help you understand what information is needed before treatment begins.

The first step is a consultation process.

What to Expect when you Reach Out

Thoughtful care starts with a thorough evaluation.

At Adelpha, getting started does not mean rushing into treatment without context. The first few visits start with an initial consultation period. This process includes at least two visits for adults and three visits for children and adolescents within the first month. This gives your physician or marriage and family therapist time to understand your history, current concerns, goals, previous treatment, and what kind of care may be helpful.

When appropriate, your physician or marriage and family therapist may ask to coordinate with your prior or current mental health providers, your primary care physician, or family members involved in your care. At the end of the consultation phase, we will share our impressions and recommendations. We will work with you to determine whether ongoing care with Adelpha is clinically appropriate and develop a comprehensive treatment plan.
